Randall Wilson, and two Division agents_taken at the trial

Reference is made to Division letter of January 31,
195$, which further relates to the desirability of obtainingtranscripts of testimony of witnesses before the federal grandjury at Kansas City, in connection with the above case. It is
noted that the Division desires that only such testimony asapnears of interest to the Division should be obtained.
In this connection, you are advised that copies have
been made of the transcripts of testimony of those witnesses
which I consider to be of most interest to the Division. Thetestimony f the remaining witnesses, with the exception of that
of Georg Rayen, has not been transcribed for the United StatesAttorney, and it is accordingly not possible to definitely deter-
mine its nature. However, I am of the opinion that the testimonyof none of these witnesses would be of special interest to theDivision. I will arrange to have copies made of the testimony
of Rayen, and will forward them to the Division as soon as pos-
sible. In the absence of further instructions from the Division,

of which are as follows:
The dig-its oi the number 18001 are larger in size tian
:hose usually appearing U.p:|2 guns of this type. This was determiged
by cOL ._'92EIin: the number 15-I l as appearing upon the receiver of the gun
in question with the numbers appearing; upon Ipunerous other U. S. Ct
.45 automatic pistols then in the possessiorf,'J'_:>1 the Arsenal.

on similar guns examined. The letters "I.E.C.,-" supposedly Springfield
Arznory Inspectors initials, also appeared upon the receiver and were
located upon the opposite side from the number 18001.
The number 12 appeared upon the fingerguard.
Said gun Isa taken completely apart but other marks of

statement was verified not only from observation but also fro: the manner
in which the parts were stored all separately!.
'L- R. G. Murphy, Ed L. Osborne, and C. L. Bye, employees
Rook Island Arsenal were unable to explain the above mentioned ifferent
size digits but suggested that possibl; the Springfield Armory at Spring-
field, Massachusetts where Government guns are numbered, use more than
one type of digit in nunberin; U. S. Colt .45 automatic pistols.
They further advised that if the proper procedure Ier B £91
followed no two U. 5. Colt .45 automatic pistols would have the lame Innuber; that in the event e nuber on one of these guns is completely I! aP5_
obliterated e new nuxber together with an I is placed on that gun by
the Springfield snuory; tlet in the event e number becozes din but can

Er. C. L. Eye advised that U. S. Colt .45 automatic
pistol number 13031 would be marked "hold" for three months end that
in the event the Division bai red to make a laborezory examination at
iestington, D. C. arrangements should be made with Chief Ordinance, Ier
Departzent, ieehington, D. C. Mr. Lester F. Stewart, 710 S. Main St.
Nonoal, Illinois a former armg officer and President, Bloomington, Rifle
Club furnished the fOl1Oing infonzetion during a discussion upon other
matters.
A comercial Colt .45 automatic pistol has a secret 7
number under the firing pin wedge but U. S. Colt .45 automatic pistols are
not so numbered.

He asked me it 1 would give him somethingto eat, seid he was hungry and lost, that he and hisbrother had been out hunting and he had got lost fromis brother. I asked him that he was hunting and he saidSquirrels or Just anything he could find. I told hime surely wouldn't be hunting squirrels after night,End he said to me, to be honest he had been drinking andhad got too much to drink and he got in wrong. I gothim a lunch and he asked me if I would get_him somemeat, he said he was hungry for meet. e seid it wasa lunch fit for a king. e gave me a dollar and I saidEI didn't want to tske anything, and he said it was well

I would say around four o'clock in the1 afternoon of 0 tober 22nd m self and Chester Smith
and Hermann Roth and E. wontgomery of the EastLiverpool Police Department were driving on the .
noticed a man back of the corn crib on the Conkle
hae and I said get out of the car quick, which they did.In the meantime the Feds come up and we hollered, there he is, back of the corn crib", so we hollered, for him to come out and he started around to come, then he ran back and we could notice from the bottomthe crib that he got into a car and then got out ofthe car, and after getting out of the car he came1 out with a Forty-five in his hand, and we holleredfor him to put up his hands, which he did not, andstarted to run, so W? gave orders to §ire,dand he92 fell in the center o the c over fiel , an we got92 to him, he said to me "Who the hell tipped you off",a and he said "Where's Edd¥", he said You've got me ' twice. In the meantime told the Federal officers to go to a phone, for which they had to go to Clarksoand get an ambulance. In the meantime, they came bacand I told the police officers t 't was guarding him to carry him from the fie d to the road or the purpoJ of putting him in the ambulance, and he died on theway out to the road, and the Federal car came up and1 we put him in the back of the Federal car, and II ordered him into the Sturgis Undertaking establishmenHe was shot about four-ten and lived about fifteen
minutes after.I Sprucedale Road, and coming along there and Montgomery
farm, and I said to him, get out of the car everybody,

Then weproceeded on out through Clerkson and turned rightat the forks of the road at Clerkson; then we stoppedat several different pleces to inquire from house tohouse, and finally did come up to this here house

If I remember right there was e coupleof ladies there st the time. 1 could see his legs,or this men's legs, through in under the corn crib,and it looked to me as though he was either startingto get in the cor or he had just taken his foot outto piece it back down on the ground. He picked that up and ran up along the edge ofthe briers and grass and bushes until he hit theroad. He opened um with a machine gun. was a couole of suspicious looking fellows laying upthere on the point. In other words, he said theywas camping. They had a couple of blankets and spillow, and he would like for them to call thepolice. Hr. Israel called me about eleven-thirty
and I went up to 5ilver's Switch. Hr. Fryuen wasstanding down on Silver's Switch watching for mebut I missed him. I went on to Koontz Avene andup over the hill to r. Israel's home. Hr. Israelwas standing out in the yard in the front of thehouse and I asked him if he knosed about where those

I pulled the choke and hestarted out to try to push. I let it drift backthere in the ditch where I had to be pulled out.

From the Fire Chief in hellsville.office and said the Chief had had e shooting affair
with e couple of boys on the hill above Eellsvillo;
that he had captured one, and one got away end he washeaded this direction in a black lord sedan with a

other than Liverpool. He wanted to know if we could §get some help en: block the road. The Sheriff was 1ewey Early had just left; Patterson was in the officdand n and I rent to the railroad and put our car l

I had Charley get beck with e shot gun and I stoppedthe cars both directions. I expect we had been therehalf an hour or forty-five minutes. We noticed this big ten car cone down the hill and turn into the Hill.I asked whose car that was end they thought it was George Henpstecd. I noticed two men in the front, 1so when it turned to the left to go into the mill Isaw whet I thought was e herd bob up and down in the

A light tan sedan, Nash, so we were rather suspiciousof it, being Saturday afternoon and the mill ntworking. So it was only a short time until it cameback. It came out to Number Thirty and turned righgoing beck the way they had come in. Then we got in
our car and followed hem out Thirty, and we were closenough to them when they turned off Thirty on the odirt road at Spences we saw them leave the highway,and we followed out tht way about half a mile IJudge. After we got closer to them Bayes gave themthe horn and they slowed down an we slowed down, etn

The body is that of a muscular well developed white male of an age estimated to be
between 25 and 50. There is a recently closed wound in the right axilla, from the
embalmer's trocar. The body measures 5'8" in length. There are recent wounds
closed by stitches on the dorsal and palmar surfaces of the right forearm at about
its middle. There is a wound in the right loin in the posterior axillary line 4'
above the level of the iliac crest. There is another wound in the right anterior
axillary line 4" above the anterior superior iliac spine. In the left anterior
axillary line there is another wound 2" below the costal margin. Another wound in
the left mid axillary line at the level of the Bth rib. The six sounds here-in
before described appear fresh and have been closed by stitches. There are multiple
scratches over the hands and legs, and several minor contusions about the legs.
One small buckshot can be felt immediately underneath the skin near the mid line
of the back at the level of the 10th rib. There is an abrasion of the skin l" in
length in the upper medial aspect of the right thigh. Ho evidence of head injury
is seen. There is a tattoo mark on the palmar surface of the left forearm composed
of the face of a nurse within a rose. The ends of the fingers have been made smooth
apparently by some abrasive substance. Due to the fact that the wounds had been
sutured at the time_of examination it is impossible to distinguish wounds of entranc
and exit. The body was opened from the supra-eternal notch to the symphysis pubis.
The peritoneal cavity is filled with blood part of which is clotted. The Bth rib
on the left side in the mid axillary line at a point immediately beneath the site of
the external wound previously described is shattered, and the path of this bullet
is obliquely to the right and downward and forward in the direction of the wound
situated in the right anterior axillary line 4" above the anterior superior iliac
spine. The path of this bullet passes through the lower left diaphragm without_
injuring the lung and perforated the stomach at the cardiac end in two places and
perforated the small intestines 4" below the duodeno-jejunal flexure and perforate -the root of the mesentery where there is a large retro-periteneal hemorrhage a%d/§
again perforated the ascending colon before leaving the body. The left pleura
space is filled with blood stained fluid. The bullet path beginning in the rightloin in the posterior axillary line penetrated between the 10th and llth rib :59//F
extends forward and to the left to the wound previously described 2" below th
costal margin on the left. There is a perforation of the transverse colon 2" to the
left of the hepatic flexure. There is extensive retro periteneal hemorrhage from
the right side and in the right ilio-psoas muscle. The liver and spleen show nn
injury. There is an extensive jagged wound on the anterior surface of the right
kidney extending transversely a distance of 2" and about Q" in depth. There are
several perforations of the small intestines. The left kidney is apparently normal.
The heart is normal in size, Shape, and consistency; and the root of the aorta is
smooth and contains a few small atheromatous placques. The myocardium is normal
in color and the endocardiam is smooth throughout. The valves are normal, and the
coronary arteries show no sclerosis. There is an extensive penetrating wound of the
