The Pirates (2-2 overall) cruised to a 14-1 victory over South Umpqua at Hagler-James Park. Freshman Klimek led the way with three goals and an assist, while Kelly Riley paired two scores with an assist. Sarah Kieffer and Mary Jacobs also had two goals each as nine different Phoenix players scored. The Pirates used a 27-3 shots advantage to produce a goal total that was their highest since 1996. It came at the expense of a Lancers squad that was without its top player, Kara Weaver. CHURCHILL 1, ROSEBURG 0 — At Roseburg, Jessica Schoepke’s score in the 63rd minute was the difference for Churchill. The Lancers enjoyed a 19-6 edge in shots but had trouble solving sophomore Tamie Alexander, Roseburg’s usual backup goalkeeper who received a rare start. Alexander made 10 saves for the Indians (1-3-1), and freshman fullback Beth David was solid in front of her. Boys CHURCHILL 1, ROSEBURG 0 — At Eugene, Steven Clayton was the match’s lone scorer, beating Roseburg’s goalkeeper with a near-post run in the 24th minute. Churchill outshot Roseburg, 16-4, in the non-conference struggle. SUTHERLIN 8, EAGLE POINT 0 — At Sutherlin, Eagle Point fell to 0-5 on the season with the non-conference loss. Eagle Point’s best chance to score came on a second-half penalty kick that Richie Cruz lofted over the crossbar. Sutherlin led 5-0 at halftime.
