I see people walking and riding their bikes on it even though it says (the) sidewalk and the road is closed. So when will it be open to traffic? — James V, Eagle Point We, at Since You Asked, put your question to Eagle Point City Planner Bunny Lincoln, James. She says the grand opening celebration and dedication of the Edgar Dahack Bridge, owner of Ed’s Oasis, should happen in two or three weeks. "Mr. Dahack lived in the community for a long time and donated some land for the bridge," says Lincoln. Advertisement The bridge, which is an extension of Loto Street, spans Little Butte Creek. Eventually a road will be extended through South Shasta around the old junior high school football field and up onto the hill to connect with Stevens Road, Lincoln says, . The majority of the funding for the $2.2 million bridge project came from a grant awarded by the Oregon Department of Transportation. The city is putting in $381,788 to the project, says Public Works Director Gary Shipley. Shipley says the bridge has been under construction for just under a year, and is running ahead of scheduled completion date of Jan. 15. "Being on budget is good too," says Shipley. Storm drainage re-designs and lighting issues have been the only small glitches. But things are moving forward now, he says. However, until the bridge is officially opened, people should heed the signs, Lincoln warns. "People aren’t supposed to be using it because we’re not done building it yet," says Lincoln.
