[ODOT photo] An closure of Interstate 5 south of Ashland is still in place as of Thursday morning. Blizzard conditions well into northern California prompted state road officials to close the freeway at the Oregon-California border late Wednesday afternoon, according to Oregon Department of Transportation updates. As of shortly after 6 a.m. Thursday, ODOT was still waiting for a go-ahead from CalTrans to reopen the roadway. During the freeway closure, ODOT advises motorists not to park vehicles at Ashland Exit 14 on- or off-ramps, and says that Dead Indian Memorial Road and Highways 66 and 273 "are not detours“ and are only open to local traffic. Leading up to the freeway closure south of Ashland, CalTrans had closed I-5 between Weed and Redding, California because of heavy snow conditions on the road and numerous disabled vehicles in the roadway.
