Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend February 1, 2006 Hidden Valley starts fast, buries Pirates Girls Basketball MURPHY — Rachael Richardson made sure Hidden Valley got off to a fast start. The senior guard made three 3-pointers in the Mustangs’ 23-point first quarter, and they cruised to a 51-23 victory over Phoenix in Skyline Conference girls basketball Tuesday. Hidden Valley had lost two consecutive close games to Mazama and Illinois Valley. "The kids were really ready to get off to a hot start and see if they could do something at home," said Mustangs coach Mike Schaefer. "I was pleased with their effort." Hidden Valley is 13-7 overall, 4-3 in the Skyline. Phoenix dropped to 3-16 and 2-5. The Mustangs’ pressure defense and steady shooting led to the big early lead. Thereafter, Schaefer was pleased with his team’s consistent offensive production as reserves saw plenty of minutes. Advertisement "It gave us some room to do some different things," said Schaefer of the lead, "and work on aspects of the game we needed to." Richardson also had seven rebounds. Megan Swanson had 10 points and six rebounds, and Jamie Richardson added six rebounds, six assists and five steals. Alex Hanscom led Phoenix with seven points. MARY’S 25 — At Chiloquin, sophomore guard Whitney Adderson led St. Mary’s with nine points, five rebounds and two steals against undefeated and third- ranked Chiloquin (16-0, 8-0 SCL). The Crusaders (5-13, 1-7 SCL) trailed by just four points after the first quarter but struggled with the Queens’ half-court trap and were outscored 12-1 in the second period. St. Mary’s cut Chiloquin’s lead to 32-25 with about five minutes to go in the fourth. The Queens responded by rattling off 16 straight points to end the game. Chiloquin’s Tiffany Rich and Tempest Dawson combined for 30 points. ST. Skyline A League BUTTE FALLS 29, PROSPECT 25 — At Prospect, Nikki Harms made two fouls shots in the final eight seconds to seal the Skyline A League win for Butte Falls. Prospect, which lost by 33 points earlier to the Loggers, pulled within two points in the late going. The Cougars’ Lacy Musard came up with a steal, but Butte Falls stole the ball back to set up Harms. Kyndi Sutfin scored all nine of her points in the second half, including seven in the third quarter as Butte Falls (9-10, 5-3 Sky A) took a 17-16 lead.
