Before the match, both squads met on the field for a moment of silence, balloons honoring the victims of the Umpqua Community College shooting were released and the Panthers delivered the Indians a card offering their condolences. “That was very emotional,” South Medford head coach Josh Desmond said. “Very intense.” Peregrina scored from 25 yards out on an assist from Owings five minutes into the match for South (6-1-3, 4-0-2 SWC), which led 1-0 at halftime. Owings tallied in the 52nd minute on a perfectly placed through ball from Hersson Guitron. Owings immediately sent the ball into the upper corner of the net from about 18 yards away against Roseburg (3-7, 1-5). Peregrina launched in his second goal from 35 yards out in the 68th minute for the Panthers, who moved into first in the SWC standings after Grants Pass (2-8, 1-5) beat North Medford (3-4-3, 3-1-2) on Tuesday, 1-0. Josue Reyes was solid defensively and Tim Bangs logged 70 minutes in goal for South, which dominated possession for much of the match. GRANTS PASS 1, NORTH MEDFORD 0: At Grants Pass, Isaiah Camacho scored the go-ahead goal on an assist from Connor Cubic in the 72nd minute for Grants Pass during Southwest Conference play. Cubic sent a pass up the middle to Camacho, who had moved up to the front line during the final 10 minutes. Camacho knocked in the score far post from 12 yards out for the Cavemen (2-8, 1-5 SWC). Goalkeeper Eric Benitez made eight saves for North Medford (3-4-3, 3-1-2). ASHLAND 4, CRATER 0: At Central Point, Stenley Graham scored twice and Bryce Rollins had a goal and an assist for Ashland during Midwestern League play. Cedar Barnes connected on a penalty kick for the Grizzlies (6-2-1, 2-0 MWL), who led 1-0 at halftime. Lars Filson had an assist, center midfielder Jahnoi Hall helped control tempo and Brady Cooper was dominant in his defensive zone for Ashland. Goalkeeper Orfanel Aguirre made 12 saves for Crater (0-9, 0-2). Girls NORTH MEDFORD 3, GRANTS PASS 0: North Medford’s Savannah Bumgardner, Kinsley Travis and Madison Morgan had goals and the Black Tornado recorded its fifth shutout of the year during Southwest Conference action at U.S. Cellular. Haley Janky and Haylie Durant recorded assists for North (7-2-1, 5-1 SWC), which led 2-0 at halftime. Bumgardner scored in the 25th minute from 18 yards out on a Janky pass, Travis in the 34th from 12 yards away on a Durant assist and Morgan in the 60th after a scrum in the box against the Cavers (4-5-1, 3-3). The North defense was led by Meghan Cowan, Sarah Thomas and Michala Denn, with Brinley O’Neill and Melissa Tonkin splitting time in-goal. SOUTH MEDFORD 1, ROSEBURG 1: Montana Logue scored in the 60th minute from 25 yards out on a Chloe Alvarez pass to even the score for South Medford during Southwest Conference play. Mahala Norris tallied in the first half for Roseburg (3-6-1, 1-4-1 SWC). Midfielder Andie DeVries and defender Baylee Smith each played well for South (7-2-1, 4-1-1). ASHLAND 9, CRATER 0: At Ashland, senior striker Samantha Lilley notched a hat trick in the first 14 minutes and Ashland led 8-0 at halftime in the Midwestern League match at North Mountain Park. The Grizzlies (6-0-4, 1-0-1 MWL) received two goals apiece from Calysta Susu-Mago and Olivia West. Mya Elder-Hammond added one goal and three assists against Crater (1-6-3, 0-2-0).
