Armenian-Americans march in LA to seek genocide recognition Posted Apr 24, 2018 at 12:33 PM LOS ANGELES (AP) — Thousands of people are taking part in annual Los Angeles marches commemorating the deaths of an estimated 1.5 million Armenians under the Ottoman Empire. The demonstrations on Tuesday come just hours after Armenian Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan resigned following 10 days of massive anti-government protests in that country. Marchers in Los Angeles are demanding that the 1.5 million deaths starting in 1915 be recognized as genocide. A separate protest is planned outside the Turkish Consulate in Los Angeles. Turkey denies the killings were genocide and contends those who died were victims of civil war and unrest.
