The Black Tornado ended a modest two-game losing streak with a 42-22 home victory. The Panthers (5-14, 1-8 SOC) only made three field goals — all coming in the fourth quarter. "Our pressure frustrated them and created some easy opportunities for ourselves," said North Medford coach Tim Karrick. "South Medford had 11 turnovers in the first half, and we turned most of those into transition buckets." North Medford (12-6, 5-4 SOC) led 25-5 at halftime and built the margin to 36-7 entering the final period. "They struggled from the field," said Karrick. "We forced them to take shots that they didn’t feel comfortable with." Advertisement Sophomore Erica Schultz had 12 points and eight rebounds to lead the Black Tornado in both categories. "(Schultz) attacked the hoop and played her normal steady game," said Karrick. The Black Tornado also received good performances from sophomore Whitney Hodnett (eight points, three steals) and sophomore guard Heidi Siebenlist, who came off the bench to contribute six rebounds, three steals and didn’t commit a turnover. South Medford senior Marissa Towry scored 16 points, including sinking 10 of 12 from the line. "It was a typical cross-town grudge match," said Karrick. "We needed to get back on track. Franko added four steals, four rebounds and four assists, and Courtney Cameron posted 13 points and four assists to help the Cavers (14-5, 7-2 SOC) amass 22 assists. The Indians limited the Pelicans to 8-for-38 from the floor, forced 31 turnovers and won the battle on the boards, 32-17. Julie Piper tallied 19 points, 12 rebounds, six steals and four assists for the Indians (17-2, 7-2 SOC), and Kristi Fallin added 18 points. The Indians’ Shayla Corder scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Klamath Union is 7-10, 2-7 SOC. Colin Reinstedt was 9 of 10 from the line, scored 11 points and notched six steals for the Grizzlies. They 16 turnovers, 15 of which were steals. Josh Cornelius scored a game-high 23 points, making 9 of 12 foul shots, and Rory Blanche added 10 points for the Grizzlies (9-10, 3-5 SOC). Crater’s James Oshel scored 19 points, Bryce Peila 16 and Nick Brothers 10 for the Comets (6-13, 2-6 SOC). The Cavemen (7-1 SOC) got 19 points and 10 rebounds from Jason Nunnemaker, and Austin Wiersma tossed in 15 points, including two clinching free throws with 10 seconds to play. KLAMATH UNION 67, ROSEBURG 55 — At Klamath Falls, a pregame moment of silence was held for legandary Klamath Union coach Al Keck, and the Pelicans responded with their second SOC victory over Roseburg this season. The legendary Klamath Union coach died Monday at age 82. Senior point guard Alex Foster scored 16 points to lead four Pelican players in double figures. Foster also passed out 7 assists. Seth Hughes added 15 points for KU, while Jeremy Yazzie posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Klamath Union led 36-31 at halftime and preserved its lead by sinking 10-of-11 free throws in the second half. SOC leading scorer Eric Thompson tallied 28 points for Roseburg (10-8, 4-4 SOC).
