RAIDER ROUNDUP: Ragino earns conference award By SOU Sports Information Updated: Sep 27, 2022 09:56 PM A A ASHLAND — Southern Oregon linebacker Jake Regino was voted the Frontier Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday following a career-best performance at Carroll (Mont.). Regino had an interception and 16 tackles in the Raiders’ 26-14 loss to the Saints on Saturday at Nelson Stadium. Among those tackles — 13 of which were tallied in the first half — was one sack and another for a 4-yard loss. The 6-foot-1, 220-pound senior was following up on another personal high of 15 tackles the previous week against College of Idaho. He’s the first Raider in the Frontier Conference era (2012-present) to record 15 or more in back-to-back outings. Regino’s average of 11.5 tackles per game is the best in the conference and ranks fifth on the NAIA leaderboard. He and the Raiders (1-3) are on the road again this week at Eastern Oregon, kicking off at 1 p.m. Saturday in La Grande. Golf MULTNOMAH INVITE: At Carson, Wash., all three Southern Oregon women’s golfers trimmed strokes off of their scores in the second round and the Raider men finished eighth in the team standings. Sophomore Nathaniel Frink led SOU for the third consecutive tournament, moving up eight spots in Round 3 on the 52-person leaderboard to 15th at 10-over-par. Frink’s 2-over final round on the par-71 course included three birdies on an even front-nine. Haley Brown, a junior making her Raider debut, carded an 80 in the second and final women’s round to finish at 20-over on the tournament in 12th place. On the back-nine, she recorded a birdie and four pars. Bryn Lawson’s 85 marked a six-stroke improvement — she finished in 24th place at 34-over — and Carley Streitler was four strokes better in the second round than the first with a 90 to finish 42-over. SOU’s women didn’t have enough individuals competing to post a team score, but the men were eighth of nine in the standings by combining to shoot 65-over. Matt Forsyth landed in 20th place at 13-over, shooting 4-over in the final round, and Ricky Reisner finished one stroke behind him with an 80. Dylan Ivens was 32-over, Cruz Kilborn 44-over, and Preston Brandt 41-over.
