Michelle Westermann was happy to provide one. The 6-foot senior post, who missed practice all week with the flu bug, came off the bench for a season-high 26 points and added 13 rebounds to lead the sixth-ranked Black Tornado to a 74-71 comeback victory over Redmond. Senior point guard Kailey Bostwick and senior wing Mellisa Eastwold also came up big. Bostwick contributed 19 points, four assists and three steals while Eastwold had 12 points, 12 rebounds and five steals. "Michelle Westermann just took over late in the third quarter and into the fourth," North Medford coach Tim Karrick said. "She was sick all week but she had a lot of energy tonight." The Black Tornado exploded for 26 points in the third quarter to trimmed its deficit to 61-57, then went on a 16-10 run in the fourth to boost its record to 6-0. Advertisement Redmond (3-2) managed only four points in the fourth quarter until the final 18 seconds when a controversial foul and technical foul on Westermann led to six straight Panther free throws. "Anytime you’re playing a quality team on the road and you come back from 15 points down, it’s a heck of a win," Karrick said. Bostwick made all four of her 3-point attempts, including a howitzer from halfcourt to end the first period. She was also 5-for-5 at the free-throw line. Sammy Nordstrom led Redmond with 18 points and Toni Jennings chipped in 16. North Medford’s next game is Dec. 27 against top-ranked Lakeridge at the Nike-Laker Interstate Shootout.
