Raider roundup SOU men end Eagle win streak KIRKLAND, Wash. -- Southern Oregon University's men's basketball team killed two birds with one stone Friday night in Cascade Conference play. The Raiders ended 22nd-ranked Northwest College's seven-game home winning streak with a 78-69 win, and in doing so kept up SOU's hopes to remain in the top 25 rankings for another week. Don Guy dropped in 20 points and Amos Baker added 15 points and 10 rebounds as the 20th-ranked Raiders (12-6, 7-0 CC) dominated from the opening tip. The win also enabled SOU to stretch its conference lead, with the second place Eagles dropping to 4-2 in league and 15-4 overall. The Raiders opened the game with a 16-5 spurt and coasted to a 36-29 lead at halftime. SOU applied even more pressure to start the second half, scoring the first seven points to take a 14-point lead -- providing more than enough cushion for the win. "The start of both halves was kind of big for us tonight," SOU coach Brian McDermott said. "We were really good defensively. That's what carried us." McDermott said SOU forced the Eagles into tough shots most of the night, with Northwest College trailing by about 10 points for most of the game. SOU shot 55 percent from the floor while holding the Eagles to just 39 percent. At Kirkland, Wash.
