Accused cop-shooter appears at arraignment, enters no plea Moises Sanchez-Llamas, who is accused of the attempted murder of two Medford police officers Dec. 18, appeared in court Monday to answer the charges against him. He did not enter a plea before Jackson County Judge Phil Arnold. He was scheduled to enter a plea at another appearance at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 10. District Attorney Mark Huddleston said bail for Sanchez-Llamas would be continued at $1 million. A grand jury indicted Sanchez-Llamas Dec. 21 on two counts of attempted aggravated murder, first-degree assault, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon, resisting arrest, two counts of first-degree burglary with a firearm, menacing, two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, and a charge of unlawful possession of a short-barreled shotgun. Sanchez-Llamas, 26, is accused of firing at officers Scott Clauson and Mike Strouse early Dec. 18 while he sought to find a woman in a Columbus Avenue duplex. They returned fire but did not hit the suspect. Clauson was wounded, the first Medford police officer shot in 66 years, and was released from the hospital Dec. 23. Huddleston also brought two material witnesses in the case in front of Arnold Monday. The defendant's brother, Adan Sanchez-Llamas, was arraigned as a material witness. His bail was set at $100,000 and a hearing will be set. Kristi Whitehead, the woman who police say Moises Sanchez-Llamas sought in the duplex, also was arraigned as a material witness. She is being represented by the public defender on the material-witness hold and on two related counts of tampering with a witness. Her bail also was set at $100,000.
