AHS ROUNDUP: Grizz boys top Thurston By Daily Tidings staff reports Sep 28, 2019 10:17 PM A A At Springfield, team captain Sam Austin had all three Ashland goals to lift the Grizzlies to a 3-1 win over Thurston in a Midwestern League clash on Saturday. After Thurston scored the first goal of the game, Mario Jacobsen sent a crossing pass to Austin, who scored Ashland’s first goal in the 27th minute. Austin then followed up one minute later with a header off a cross from Lucas Poareo Davidson to give the Grizzlies (6-2, 3-0 MWL) a 2-1 halftime lead. Ashland then put on the clamps defensively to shut out the Colts scoring while Austin scored again in the 55th minute off an assist from Scott Gustafson. The Grizzlies used two goalkeepers, Gabe Giancarlo and Zander Huston, to turn away seven shots on goal by Thurston. Girls Soccer THURSTON 2, ASHLAND 1: At Springfield, Thurston scored two goals in the first 8 minutes because of defensive backfield mistakes as Ashland dropped its second straight Midwestern League match. Kendra Caruso managed to score in the 39th minute for the Grizzlies (4-2-2, 1-2 MWL) but Ashland could not muster the offense to come back on a rain-soaked field. Volleyball ASHLAND 3, WILLAMETTE 0: At Eugene, Ashland improved to 6-4 overall and 5-2 in Midwestern League play with the 25-12, 25-9, 26-24 victory. soccer.jpg
