SOCIETY Friday afternoon a meeting of the Parent-Teacher circle of the Washington school was called for the purpose of discussing the subject of having a junior high school at that building. All those present seemed to favor the plan. After the subject had been discussed from every viewpoint Superintendent Hillis explained the situation — how the fifth and sixth grades would be disturbed to some degree. A goodly number of patrons who have children in these grades were present and were in favor of having a junior high school. The school board was represented and were informed that the building would be remodeled to fit the need of the school, which has long been looked for by the patrons. The regular meeting of the circle will be held the fourth Friday, April 28, and all those who are interested and would like to learn more about the new movement are invited to be present. The smoker given by Medford Camp No. 90, Woodmen of the World, last Wednesday night, was well attended and thoroughly enjoyed by all present. Neighbor Silliman acted as chairman of the meeting and a program was carried out in which Neighbor W. J. Janes rendered some excellent violin solos, accompanied on the piano by J. T. Broadley. A trio, consisting of Lindley, Balcom and Lawton, sang several selections which were received with great applause. Several other stunts were presented which added greatly to the amusement of the evening. Neighbor H. A. Cannaday delivered a splendid address on "Fraternalism," giving an outline of the immense wealth of the Woodmen of the World, and the vast amount of good being done by that organization in the way of affording relief and protection to the widows and orphans. Twelve new applications for membership were secured and several others pledged. It was a very successful meeting. The Neighborhood Shakespeare club met at the home of Mrs. George B. Canode on Dakota avenue Thursday evening with Miss Cox as leader. The study of "Twelfth Night" was completed and a general discussion on the subject will be held at the next meeting.
