For two Medford brothers, keeping a promise to their late father has been a matter of honor. Now 18 and 19, the two young men were raised alone by their dad after their mother died when they were small. When cancer struck their father, the two boys took turns caring for him while attending CrossRoads, an alternative high school run by Community Works of Medford. The illness claimed their dad last May, but before his death, the boys promised to have him cremated. It was his last wish, they told Marlene Mish, director of CrossRoads. Advertisement The cost of cremation was $750. Since May, the brothers have taken turns working and going to classes to pay living expenses and to decrease the debt. It’s now down to $450, Mish said. Financial needs mean only one of the young men can go to school at a time; the other must work full time to support them both. Expenses are tight. This holiday season, the brothers could use help with basic supplies. Neither has a coat. They could use sweatshirts, size large; jeans, size 34-by-36; or shoes size 11 and 11½ . A hair dryer would be welcome. Direct donations or gift certificates would be appropriate, Mish said. To help, call Mish at 770-1270, Ext. 100.
