Kent Royal Vergara, 28, of Medford, pleaded guilty to distribution of meth and conspiracy to deliver meth. He was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Medford on Wednesday. A 10-count indictment filed in District Court in March 2005 alleged that between October 2001 and September 2004 Vergara distributed meth on seven occasions, sometimes working with others. It listed seven counts of distribution and three counts of conspiracy to deliver. The indictment shows he delivered more than 50 grams of "actual methamphetamine" twice and more than 5 grams on five others. Federal officials track the amount of pure meth, but said the amount of street drug seized was "multiple pounds." Vergara entered a guilty plea in January on one distribution and one conspiracy charge, court records show. Those charges were linked to his conspiring with Minardo Serna Pereschica between October 2001 and March 2002 and delivering more than 50 grams of meth on Oct. 20, 2001, the indictment said. Serna was convicted of federal drug charges in October 2003 and sentenced to seven years and three months in prison, federal court records indicate. The indictment against Vergara also links him to Jeffrey Shepherd, aka Shepard, who was convicted of federal drug charges in January 2004, as well as state charges stemming from a home-invasion burglary in the Applegate in which guns were stolen from a collector. The third conspirator named in Vergara's indictment, Leonel Sanchez, is set to enter a guilty plea in U.S. District Court in June, court officials said. Vergara, who has a lengthy criminal record, entered guilty pleas Friday in Jackson County Circuit Court on a string of outstanding cases there including a probation violation on a 2000 meth-delivery case, two driving under the influence cases, a burglary and assault case, and a case involving reckless driving and felony attempting to elude police, all from 2004. He will serve the sentences on those cases at the same time he is in federal prison on the drug charges. During Friday's sentencing hearing, Vergara said he would use his time in prison to better himself, Judge Ray White reported.
