Ashland, North fit to be tied in girls tennis Apr 09, 2004 12:00 AM A A ASHLAND ' Ashland girls tennis coach Carl Carstensen knew that when the Southern Oregon Conference switched to a four singles, four doubles format that a tie was inevitable. He was right Thursday afternoon, as his Grizzlies tied North Medford, 4-4. I'd rather play with a fifth singles match and the girls would, too, Carstensen said. North Medford dominated doubles play, winning three of four matches, but Ashland was equally dominant in singles play, as Kayla Moyse and Lauren Sargent each won straight-set matches. SOC Girls Golf ASHLAND WINS OPENER ' At Eagle Point, buoyed by the steady play of Stephanie Johns, Elaina Graham and Stephanie Graham, Ashland breezed to victory in the first counting tournament of the Southern Oregon Conference schedule. Ashland posted a team score of 350, with Johns carding a 79, Elaina Graham an 83 and Stephanie Graham an 85. Grants Pass finished second at 377, but grabbed the top individual honor as Justine Hix was medalist with a 5-over-par 77 in the five-team tourney at Eagle Point Golf Course. On the girls' side, the Pelicans won 12 of 17 events to dominate the Eagles, 110-35. Kristina Bateman won the long and triple jumps for Eagle Point.
