Since You Asked: Not much for independent voters to get excited about Wednesday May 2, 2018 at 2:01 AM I’m a Democrat and received my ballot. There’s not a lot there this time, which made me wonder, what is there for independents to vote for, since they can’t vote on any of the party nominees? Must not take much time. — Ron, Medford You’re right about that, Ron. From our perusal of the sample ballot that can be found on the Jackson County elections website, those folks have votes on three contested judge races, the commissioner of Bureau of Labor and Industries, and the Medford School District bond measure, if they live within that district’s boundaries. Just to be clear, Ron, when you refer to independents, with a lower-case “i,” we are assuming the reference is to non-affiliated voters, that is, voters who belong to no party, including the Independent Party, with an upper-case “I.” The Independent Party folks also have a limited ballot for the May 15 primary, but do have three nominees for governor to choose from and an unopposed candidate for the Second Congressional District seat. The only competitive local race for non-affiliated and Independent Party voters is for Jackson County Circuit Court Position 9, which has four candidates: Joe Davis, Nick Geil, David Orr and Laurance Parker.
