Knights' `D' generates win over IV MERLIN -- North Valley mixed up its defense and confounded Illinois Valley's offense as the Knights won their second straight Skyline Conference boys basketball contest, 56-38, Tuesday night. North Valley led 12-11 after one quarter, then limited the Cougars to four points in the second period to take a 23-15 advantage at the half. "We were switching up our defense and that seemed to confuse them," said North Valley assistant coach Jim Hurst. "We were also keeping them off the boards." Sam Jarrett led North Valley with 16 points, while Luke Godfrey had 12. A key for North Valley, according to Hurst, was shutting down Brandon Henry in the second half after he scored eight points in the first two periods. Behind the play of Ries, Caleb Thomas and Derrick Horning, the Mustangs increased their 24-22 halftime lead to 43-31 after three periods.
