More than a thousand registered runners, trotters and walkers participated in the Southern Oregon Runner’s annual Turkey Trot on Thursday at the Jackson County Expo, bracing temperatures in the low 30s but under mostly clear skies on Thanksgiving Day. The four events were the kids fun run, an 8-mile run, and 5k and 2-mile events. The running group played host to a food drive for the Southern Oregon University food bank, and a portion of the proceeds will go to to SOR Shoes for Student Runners Program, which provides shoes to middle school and high school athletes who would like to participate in cross country and track but cannot afford proper running shoes.
