The 16-for-22 second-period performance helped the Raiders (7-6, 4-1 CC) capture their third straight win and fourth in five tries since Dec. 20. SOU, which finished 29-for-47 from the floor for the game (62 percent), received a third consecutive team-best scoring effort from senior guard Brad Coen, who canned 7 of 10 shots, including 5 of 7 on 3-point tries, for 19 points. Junior post Jeff Williams scored 14, and senior forward Travis Elam came off the bench to go 6-for-6 for 14 points. Southern visits Cascade College tonight. Women’s Basketball SOUTHERN OREGON 71, WARNER PACIFIC 54 — At Portland, Andi Peterson’s career night helped Southern Oregon notch a much-needed Cascade Conference road victory. The Raiders (3-13) improved to 2-3 in league play after Peterson, a 5-foot-10 sophomore forward who prepped at nearby Sunset High, converted 7 of 11 shots and 11 of 15 free throw attempts for a collegiate-best and game-high 25 points. Southern extended a 33-28 halftime edge by out-rebounding the last-place Knights (3-13, 0-4) 48-36 for the game and limiting them to a 33-percent field goal percentage, including 2-for-17 from beyond the arc. Junior guard Courtney Bothum scored 19 for the Raiders, while posts Kat Cox and Kailee Short each collected a game-high eight rebounds. SOU finished 24 of 59 from the floor (41 percent). Wrestling OREGON WRESTLING CLASSIC — At Redmond, Southern Oregon lost all three matches in the dual-meet tournament, but it didn’t lack for tough competition. The Raiders (2-4) were beaten by Oregon State (23-21), Augsburg College (32-12) and Oregon (28-11). The Raiders’ match against OSU came down to the last bout, where SOU freshman Nick Ripsom dropped a 17-1 technical fall to Bobby Pfennigs. David O’Brien, SOU’s top-ranked 184-pounder, went 3-0 for the day. One of his wins was a hard-fought, 3-1 decision over Oregon’s Chet McBee, a former Eagle Point standout. Other Raiders to turn in fine showings were Jimmy Grochowsky, 3-0 at 165; Matt Holt, 2-1 with a fall at 149; and Rich Vigorito, 2-1, including a 10-5 win over former North Medford wrestler Joel Gibson.
