Saturday Mar 24, 2018 at 5:31 PM Mar 24, 2018 at 7:49 PM Local report Three people have been displaced and two people hospitalized following a Medford apartment fire this morning, but rescuers say an on-site manager’s quick action kept flames at bay. Fire broke in an upstairs bedroom within an 8-plex apartment building at 745 N. Riverside Ave. just after 9:30 a.m., according to a press release issued by Medford Fire-Rescue. A manager who’d been downstairs was credited with keeping the fire inside the room until fire crews arrived. First responders arrived within six minutes of the call, first reported at 9:34 a.m., according to Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon reports. Four people suffered smoke-inhalation injuries at the scene, of which two were treated at nearby hospitals, according to the release. One resident was taken to a hospital by Mercy Flights ambulance, while another caught a ride by private vehicle for medical evaluation. The on-site apartment manager used a total of six extinguishers to keep the flames from spreading from the bedroom, according to Medford Fire-Rescue, and investigators found that the building had working smoke alarms. A total of 18 personnel responded to the scene, with four fire engines and an aerial ladder in the rescue. Investigators have ruled the fire’s cause as accidental, and the American Red Cross is assisting the three who were displaced.
