Renius takes charge as Knights drop Pirates MERLIN - When the game was on the line, North Valley sophomore Elaina Renius took over in leading the Knights past Phoenix in Skyline Conference girls basketball action Friday night. A three-point play by Renius and two clutch free throws with five seconds to play helped seal a 47-40 triumph over the Pirates. North Valley (13-3, 5-1 Skyline) held firm to a two-point lead in the waning minutes when Renius scored inside and hit an accompanying free throw. After Phoenix turned the ball over on the next possession, North Valley designed an in-bounds play to get the ball to Renius, who calmly drained both free throws after being fouled. Renius finished with 19 points and six rebounds, while Malloree Enoch added eight points and seven steals for the Knights. Tiffany Ross had 13 points and Jennifer Dunlap 10 for Phoenix, which clipped a nine-point deficit in the third quarter to two points. The game went back-and-forth from that point. "We just could never get over the hump," said Phoenix coach Kyle Walker. "That's kind of happened to us the last few games. We're just missing that one thing that would push us over the top." Robertson said he was proud of how his team was able to keep the Pirates (6-10, 4-3) from overtaking the lead. "Defensively I think we did a pretty good job in the fourth quarter of taking away what they wanted to do," said Robertson. "But it was a great game.
