Black Tornado girls rumble past Pelicans in 5-1 romp KLAMATH FALLS - The scoring came in waves for the North Medford girls soccer team on Tuesday. The Black Tornado clumped together goals in the 29th, 30th, 45th, 46th and added a final score for good measure in the 60th minute during a 5-1 Southern Oregon Conference rout of Klamath Union. With the win, North remained unbeaten at 4-0 in the SOC. Kelly Vilarino scored two goals, while McKenzie Weiler, Jessica Bartalini and Whitney Major each added goals. "Nicole's the one that's been scoring them," said North Medford coach Dick Darcy of Kelly's twin sister Nicole. "Kelly hadn't scored in the last couple games so it was nice to see her break the drought." Weiler notched the first North Medford goal in the 29th minute. Just one minute later, Vilarino got on the board to give North a 2-0 lead at the half. Vilarino found the net in the 45th minute and Bartalini followed suit a minute later to stake North Medford to a 4-0 lead. Klamath Union (4-4-1 overall, 1-3 SOC) didn't find its offensive touch until the final minutes on a Brianne Hackett goal. "It was a very physical game," Darcy said. "They (Klamath Union) came out after we started scoring and got more physical. "If you are going to play that way, then we can play that way too. We're conditioned for that type of thing." Despite a goose egg in the scoring line, Lisa Munyon continued to contribute in all other areas for the Black Tornado. "Lisa played her usual outstanding game," Darcy said. "Offense, defense, hardworking, you just can't say enough about her and what she brings to the team." North Medford returns to action next Tuesday with a home game against Roseburg. ASHLAND 2, ROSEBURG 1 - At Roseburg, Aurora Dolan and Brittany Reinhardt each scored to help Ashland to its first Southern Oregon Conference win. Marri Coen put Roseburg up 1-0 in the 20th minute, but Dolan answered for the Grizzlies (1-3 SOC) 14 minutes later. Reinhardt notched the game-winner just three minutes later. The Indians (2-2) held a 15-6 shots-on-goal advantage. � GRANTS PASS 4, EAGLE POINT 0 - At Grants Pass, senior forward Natasha Crook added one goal to her team-leading total as the Cavers improved to 3-1 in the Southern Oregon Conference. Crook's goal came in the 15th minute, sending Grants Pass (7-1-1 overall, 3-1 SOC) on its way. Crook has 15 scores this season, six in conference play. Patina Taylor, Jackie Pilcher and Tara Luker also scored for the Cavers. Eagle Point dropped to 0-4 in SOC play. Boys GRANTS PASS 4, EAGLE POINT 1 - At Eagle Point, Brant Minor scored two first-half goals to lead Grants Pass to its first Southern Oregon Conference win. The Cavemen (5-6 overall, 1-3 SOC) had come up on the short end of 2-1 decisions to North Medford and Ashland before breaking into the win column. Josh Swanburg had a goal and an assist, while goalkeeper Matt Lamont scored on a penalty kick for Grants Pass. Senior Casey Murdock scored the lone goal for Eagle Point (3-6-2, 0-4). ASHLAND 1, ROSEBURG 0 - At Ashland, Scott Beaver kicked home the lone goal in the 47th minute as Ashland picked up the Southern Oregon Conference win. Matt Sharp started the game-winning sequence by stealing the ball and passing to Jesse Hodges, who then found Beaver 8 yards in front of the net. The Grizzlies (8-1 overall, 3-1 SOC) outshot Roseburg (6-3-2, 2-2) 15-7 in the contest. SOUTH MEDFORD 3, CRATER 0 - Daniel Hathaway scored two goals and Ryan Wallenberg added another in a South Medford win at Fichtner-Mainwaring Park. Hathaway scored one minute into the game and added his second tally in the 18th minute for a 2-0 lead at the break. Wallenberg finalized the scoring in the 70th minute as the Panthers improved to 8-2-1 overall and 3-1 in the SOC.
