Despite their lofty rankings in the state coaches poll, both teams suffered upset defeats in the first round Wednesday before bouncing back with wins Thursday. The Vikings (21-6), who won the Skyline Conference with a 13-1 record, were led by 22 points from Tyler Larson. Levell Hesia, the two-time Skyline player of the year, was held to 15 points, almost nine below his average. The senior point guard shot 4 of 12 from the field and dished six assists. The Spartans received 22 points from Kevin Harrison and 19 from Ryan Coldren.
