Edwards, Dobson earn top SOC running honors By DON HUNT Ashland's Paris Edwards, who won the Class 4A individual state championship and helped the Grizzly girls to a second-place finish as a team, has been named the female runner of the year in the Southern Oregon Conference. Klamath Union's Ian Dobson was selected the SOC boys male runner of the year. Edwards steamrolled the competition at the state meet one week after dominating the SOC district meet. She took the lead less than 400 meters into the race and ultimately defeated runner-up Liz Lindgren of Klamath Union by nine seconds. Dobson also dominated the SOC boys district meet and then won state for the second straight year. Dobson beat runner-up Brett Holts of Bend by a whopping 18 seconds in leading the Klamath Union boys to the state championship. South Medford's Perry Custance, who took fourth at state, and Robbie Nutter were chosen to the boys first team. Joining Edwards on the girls first team were Ashland teammates Anita Sindelar and Jessica Stowell, South Medford's Sarah Eyman, Crater's Janelle Goeres and Sam Kezer and Klamath Union's Lindgren and Lydia Bales. Coach of the year honors went to Klamath Union's Marnie Mason-Johnson (boys) and Crater's Lynn Carrigan (girls).
