Sams Valley man jailed after fight with deputy Michael McCarty Thursday Oct 13, 2016 at 1:27 PM Oct 13, 2016 at 3:05 PM A man who fled into the woods Wednesday night after a Sams Valley homeowner caught him on his property was captured today after a fight with a sheriff's deputy, police say. Michael Dean McCarty, 33, was arrested at about 8:15 this morning after he was found trespassing in the 9000 block of Highway 234. McCarty resisted arrest, but was apprehended with the help of the homeowner, according to a release issued by the Jackson County Sheriff's Department. Detectives believe McCarty was involved in several other Sams Valley-area incidents earlier in the week and are asking people who may have seen McCarty on their property to contact the sheriff's department, the release said. McCarty was lodged in the Jackson County Jail Thursday on numerous charges, including probation violation, criminal trespass, resisting arrest, assault on a police officer and menacing. His bail was set at $47,000. Court records show McCarty has warrants for failing to comply with the terms of his probation for 2015 identity theft and 2013 methamphetamine possession convictions. McCarty has a number of prior misdemeanor convictions and faces misdemeanor charges of trespassing, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct from a January incident.
