How can I get my name off their lists? -- Gary N., Medford We can help you get your name off not only telemarketers' lists, Gary, but also off mailing lists. Both are handled through the Direct Marketing Association, a national trade association serving the direct marketing field. You can get your name off many lists by registering with the DMA. To get your name off telemarketers' lists, send a postcard with your name, home address, telephone number (including area code) and signature to: Mail Preference Service Direct Marketing Association P.O. Box 9014 Farmingdale, NY 11735 To get your name off mailing lists, send a postcard with your name, home address and signature to: Mail Preference Service Direct Marketing Association P.O. Box 9008 Farmingdale, NY 11735 Here's the bad news: Registering with the DMA won't get you off everybody's lists. Local merchants, religious and charitable organizations, professional and alumni associations and political candidates often do not use the service. Your best bet to get off their lists, the DMA says, is to make a request directly to the company or organization. Details on ridding your life of solicitations are available at the DMA Web site: www.the-dma.org/ (Send your questions to "Since You Asked," Mail Tribune Newsroom, P.O.
