Mail Tribune 100, Nov. 20, 1922 By Alissa Corman Nov 20, 2022 12:00 AM A A News from 100 years ago The following news items were drawn from the archives of the Mail Tribune 100 years ago Nov. 20, 1922 CHANGES MADE IN ASHLAND HOSPITAL INSIDE AND OUT Contractor Greaser has made notable improvements on the Granite City Hospital property, both as regards exterior and interior. The grounds also have been receiving some care instead of the neglect which characterized former years. A commodious garage will also be installed, as numerous cars are frequently visiting the establishment, which is to be known hereafter as the Community Hospital, a generalization more broad in significance. There has been a new deal in connection with the management since Jesse Winburn assumed control through purchase of practically all the stock. It being a tentative plan of his to donate the property to the city under certain restrictions, this not being a matter of late news because such announcement has been made before in these columns. A former matron of the hospital has been fired literally — “resignation” some term it — and another one employed. The institution is being supplied with all the equipment which implies the last word along progressive factors, the plan being to make the institution a typical one as representing the highest ideals applying to both medicine and surgery, physicians from any part of the county being welcome to take advantage of its privileges upon payment of merely nominal charges. Neither will patients who are unable to pay certain fixed charges be denied a refuge, as it is planned to make the hospital just what its name implies, a haven of relief and rest. LOCAL AND PERSONAL The Y. W. C. A. girl class will meet Tuesday evening at the Y house. Lessons, under the direction of Miss Snedicor, will be given in parchment shades and block designing for Christmas cards. All girls interested are invited to attend. ----- Most of the local people who had attended the O. A. C. homecoming and the O. A. C.-U. of O. football game of last Saturday arrived home today by auto and train. ----- A crew of concrete workers began laying the new paving on the Associated Oil company’s new service station ground this morning and officials of the local branch of the company state that the new station will be complete and in operation within the next thirty days. ----- The stage drivers between here and Klamath Falls report that there is no snow on the Green Spring mountain road, the 14 inches of snow that as there recently having all melted away. — Alissa Corman; [email protected]
