SOU men drop season opener to Menlo By SOU Sports Information Aug 24, 2018 11:04 PM A A ATHERTON, Calif. — The Southern Oregon men’s soccer team’s non-conference struggles followed them from last season to Friday’s opener against Menlo (Calif.), where they struggled to generate offense in a 1-0 loss to the Oaks at Wunderlich Field. Noa Kerr accounted for the lone goal. In the 13th minute, he received a cross to the far post from Angelo Willi, who was credited with an assist of Kerr’s converted header. The Oaks improved to 2-0. They’d defeated another Cascade Conference team, Northwest Christian, by a 7-0 score on Thursday. The game was originally scheduled to be played at Raider Stadium before unhealthy air quality forced the move. SOU will remain in Atherton on Saturday for a 2:30 p.m. matchup with The Master’s (Calif.). Against the Oaks, they finished with deficits of 14-10 in shots and 9-5 in shots on goal. They’ve lost at Menlo each of the last two seasons and been shut out in five of their last six non-conference games. Junior keeper Wyatt Zabinksi made eight saves to keep the Raiders in it. Freshman Zak Woolley had their last chance, a header that went for Andres Zimmermann’s fifth save in the 87th minute.
