Woman safe after getting stranded on Butte Falls forest road By Mail Tribune staff Updated: Dec 15, 2021 08:30 AM A A Owing to the efforts of Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputies and six teams of search and rescue crews, a Prospect woman is safe after spending at least 27 hours stuck in the snow outside Butte Falls. The 46-year-old woman was found tired, cold and nearly out of gas Monday night after her Jeep Liberty SUV was found stuck on a Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest road off Rancheria Road, according to a social media post on the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page. She told the search-and-rescue truck team that she didn’t believe she would’ve been able to survive another night in the elements. Even when searchers had a last known location in the forest to work with, police say that deep snow delayed their search. The sheriff’s office and the Forest Service ask off-roaders to steer clear of forest roads on high elevations during the winter storms — especially with more heavy snow expected to fall Wednesday. The forest roads aren’t maintained and aren’t plowed.
