Mason's hat trick lifts South ASHLAND -- Tiffany Mason doubled her scoring output for the season Saturday with a hat trick as South Medford blitzed Ashland, 4-0, in a Southern Oregon Conference girls soccer match. "Tiffany was just on fire today," South Medford coach Leslie Lang said. Mason, a senior forward, broke away from defenders then deposited the ball in the right corner of the net twice in the first half as South took a 2-0 lead. Mason became the first Panther to score three goals in a game this fall when she scored on another breakaway in the second half. Sophomore Heather Frigaard, seeing her first varsity action, scored the final goal on a breakaway. "I want her to start getting comfortable playing with the varsity," Lang said. "We'll swing her up (from the junior varsity) against North and if we go to state." Ashland (1-5, 0-2 SOC) threatened early in the second half and late in the game without success as South outshot the Grizzlies 25-6. The win was South's third of the week, following victories over Grants Pass and Bend. GRANTS PASS 3, ROSEBURG 2 (shootout) --Grants Pass triumphed in a shootout after 80 minutes of regulation play and two 10-minute overtime periods failed to produce a winner. Shannon Tarvin and Hedda Gardsjord provided Roseburg (4-2-3, 0-2 SOC) with a 2-0 lead with goals at the 10th and 18th minutes, but the Lady Cavers (4-3-1, 1-1) scored once before half on a Tasha Crook goal. Crook then tied the match with just 3 minutes remaining in regulation off an assist from Erin Woolley. Grants Pass goalie Alicia Pilcher knocked down three of Roseburg's attempts in the shootout to ice the win. One of the Indians' best players, forward Rachael Stribling, left the match with a severely sprained ankle in the 20th minute and didn't return. KLAMATH UNION 6, EAGLE POINT 1 -- At Eagle Point, Sara Schaaf and Sarah Davison scored two goals apiece for Klamath Union in their Southern Oregon Conference win. Schaaf put the Pelicans on the board just 15 seconds into the game and added her second goal just before the half to make it 3-1. Davison knocked home back-to-back goals at the seven- and eight- minute marks of the second half to put Klamath Union up 5-1. Tera Jackson scored the only Eagle Point goal at the 15th minute of the first half on a penalty kick. Lynne Putnam and Sam Gilbert added the other two scores for the Pelicans (5-3-1, 2-0 SOC). The loss drops the Eagles to 1-1 in conference play and 6-2-1 overall. NORTH MEDFORD 7, CRATER 0 -- At Varsity Field, six players got into the scoring act as North Medford improved to 2-0 in SOC play and 5-3 overall. North took a 3-0 lead in the first half as Katie Grace, Christine Cameron and Tiffany Blodgett, a junior transfer from Minneapolis, Minn., scored. Tennille Bennett started the second half by scoring six minutes after intermission. Emily Schuler got an assist from Heather Johnson to make it 5-0. From there, freshman forward Brittney Badger tallied twice to wrap up the scoring. North outshot Crater 34-5 and Tornado goalie Hawley Puett made several great plays.
