But defending SOC champion Klamath Union got off to a fast start and turned back the Comets, 3-0. "Crater is hot right now," Klamath Union coach Marty Ledgerwood said. "Our guys played solid defense and took advantage of our opportunities in the first half and didn’t allow them to get in the game." Pelican senior Ricardo Guerrero kept his streak alive of scoring a goal in each game this season when he netted a shot at the 39th minute off an assist from Tyler Casey. Guerrero has 15 goals in Klamath Union’s eight games. Guerrero’s goal gave the Pels a 3-0 lead at halftime. Casey opened the scoring at the 11th minute. Drew Baldwin followed with a goal seven minutes later to increase the margin to 2-0. Guerrero assisted on Baldwin’s score. Crater goalie Tomas Iboa had a busy game in the net. "We actually pounded their goal in the second half and their keeper came up with some big saves," said Ledgerwood. Klamath (6-2, 2-0 SOC) outshot the Comets, 24-7, and had six corner kicks to Crater’s one. "We were able to control the midfield and go for it quite a bit," Ledgerwood said. "They had some good counter attacks, but we were able to slow them and stop them. They were dangerous at times." NORTH MEDFORD 10, EAGLE POINT 1 — Jorge Castro and Ian Norgan each tallied two goals in leading host North Medford to its first Southern Oregon Conference victory. Also scoring for the Black Tornado (3-6, 1-1 SOC) were Luis Cabrera, Matt Schneider, Max Brown, Branden DeLuca, Todd Rufener and Jose Magana. North managed a 7-0 halftime lead at Hoffbuhr Field, with Richie Cruz of Eagle Point (1-7, 0-2) scoring his team’s lone goal in the 54th minute off an assist by Javier Aispura. The Tornado managed a 16-3 advantage in shots on goal, with Devin Torrey and Alex Meyer sharing duties in goal. GRANTS PASS 3, ROSEBURG 1 — At Grants Pass, Joel Janke’s putback off a free kick just one minute into the second half broke a 1-1 tie at Mel Ingram Field and gave Grants Pass its first SOC victory in two outings. The Cavemen added an insurance goal by Josh Swanburg at the 59th minute. Chris Korbulic provided Grants Pass the initial lead 17 minutes into the match. Roseburg (4-5, 0-2 SOC) squared things on junior forward Jon Sanders goal at the 33rd minute. Grants Pass had a 12-8 edge in shots and a 2-0 margin in corner kicks.
