Ashland Pilots sweep past Phoenix Charles Dotterer collected five hits in the doubleheader to lead the Ashland Pilots (8-1-1) to a sweep over the Phoenix Pirates in American Legion A Area 4 baseball Thursday at Miles Field. Ashland (8-1-1) registered wins of 9-0 and 5-1 in its first Area 4 action of the season. Ryan Decker (1-0) and Titus Weston combined for a three-hit shutout in the opener. Decker struck out seven in five innings. Dotterer picked up three hits in Game 1 and Weston went 3-for-4 with one RBI. CENTRAL POINT 5-11, NORTH JACKSON 4-5 - At Eagle Point on Wednesday, Chris Pettegrew drilled a pair of two-run homers in the nightcap and had a key two-run double in the opener as Central Point swept a doubleheader. Pettegrew finished Game 2 with five RBIs, with his pair of homers coming in the first and second innings to help Central Point build a 6-0 lead of North Jackson and starter Chris Boyd. Derek Petersen and Jared Maddocks each added two hits and drove in a run in Game 2. North Jackson (5-8) was led by Tyson Nelson, Brandon Willer and Mark Farrell, who each had two hits in Game 2. Royals starter Carl Christian had a no-hitter through five innings of Game 1 before having that disappear, along with the win, after a five-run sixth inning surge by Central Point. North Jackson had taken a 4-0 lead in the fifth after loading the bases and scoring off two passed balls and two errors.
