Pirates fall prey to Lions, 3-2 COTTAGE GROVE Injury-riddle Phoenix suffered its second straight non-league loss to a Sky-Em League opponent Wednesday when Cottage Grove outscored the Pirates, 3-2. The loss dropped the Phoenix girls soccer team to 2-2-1. Phoenix was without two regulars, including senior defender Jessica Prisbrey with the flu and back spasms. Then freshman goalie Kat Cox was injured as Cottage Groves Santana Osti scored her second goal with 15 minutes left in the first half. Phoenix got on the scoreboard in the second half when Helen Shorlands direct kick was headed by Chelsi Clark to Larrisa Wiltrout, who scored. Samantha Stewart extended Cottage Groves lead to 3-1 on a penalty kick before Shorland converted a penalty kick for the Pirates. Phoenix outshot the Lions, 28-19, but 14 of Cottage Groves attempts came on breakaways.   Obituaries | Sports | Business | Classifieds |  Tempo | Prime Times | So Oregon Sites | Outdoor Journal | Subscribe | Contact | Movies | Advertise | Real Estate Showcase | Archive  | Editorials | Letters to the editor | Religion | Wake-up Call | NIE | Cyber Chef | Job Network | So Oregon Weather | WSJ Northwest | Forums | AP Wire | AP Money | F.A.Q. | Awards Ottaway Newspapers, Inc.
