Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend March 18, 2006 Since You Asked: Property owners liable for sidewalks The recent snow and ice reminded me to ask: am I liable if a pedestrian slips and falls and hurts him or herself on an icy sidewalk in front of my house? — Trenton, Medford Thank you for the slippery question, Trenton. For your answer we asked Medford City Attorney John Huttl, who said the city code makes people who own property adjacent to sidewalks responsible for the maintenance of those sidewalks. That would include ice removal. Also, that property owner is responsible for any damages the city has been compelled to pay in a case where someone is injured on a sidewalk in front of your property because of neglect.
