Mazama shoots down Hidden Valley KLAMATH FALLS - Gimmick defenses only go so far in shutting down Mazama gunner Levell Hesia. Despite using a variety of defenses on the 5-foot-6 junior guard, who still managed 20 points, Hidden Valley continued its season-long shooting woes during a 64-52 loss to the Vikings on Friday. "We weren't shooting the ball well at all," said Hidden Valley first-year coach Randy Kirkland. "I think we haven't hit a jump shot pretty much all year." The Mustangs trimmed a double-digit deficit to eight early in the fourth quarter, but couldn't climb any closer. "You know, we had quite a few opportunities to really cut into the lead but couldn't knock down shots," said Kirkland. "And a lot of those shots were wide open." Junior guard Cody Biller led Hidden Valley with 12 points and helped defensively in an effort to contain Hesia. "I thought we played really good team defense," said Kirkland. "We just tried to limit his (Hesia) penetration and give him the jump shot. "He's going to get his points but I thought Biller and (Chris) Jiron did a nice job on him." Jeff Klug and Brock Richards led the Mustangs with eight rebounds apiece. Hidden Valley fell to 4-11 overall and 2-3 in Skyline action.
