I always slow down, but I always feel nervous that other cars won’t slow down and we’ll all run into each other. Wouldn’t it be safer to have at least two stop signs up? — Linda P., Medford According to the Medford Public Works Department, they don’t have funding to put up signs at all intersections, so they just put them where traffic studies deem them warranted. They also say there are a couple of reasons to avoid putting up stop signs. They said drivers will just blast through the intersections they consider to have unwarranted stop signs. (OK, we find that hard to believe, too, but that’s what they said.) Advertisement Also, stopping and starting does create air and noise pollution, so the more traffic keeps moving, the better. According to police, drivers at an intersection with no signs or signals must yield to vehicles to their right. So always let the driver on the right go first, even if you got to the intersection a moment before the other driver did, and even if your street is the busy one.
