Third possible suspect sought in Central Point robbery Thursday Feb 15, 2018 at 6:18 PM Feb 15, 2018 at 6:55 PM Central Point police are looking for a man who was caught on store surveillance video with two Texans accused in an armed robbery that occurred Tuesday at a home on Greenleaf Lane. Police obtained video that showed three men together at a local business; two of those men, both Texans, were later arrested on charges they beat a Central Point man and robbed him of pounds of marijuana Tuesday evening before leading police on a car chase that ended in a crash in east Medford. Central Point police released still images from the video showing a black man inside the business wearing a black sweatshirt with the words "My gym can beat up your gym" on the back. The man is described as being in his early 30s, about 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 7 inches tall and with an athletic build. The front of his sweatshirt had a red-orange boxing logo. Police said they want to question him in the case. Ashton Shamar Garrett, 21, and Erick Yair Cervantes Melinero, 22, both of Fort Worth, are suspected of posing as pot buyers at a home in the 800 block of Greenleaf Lane, then brandishing an AR-15 rifle and Glock handgun while robbing the resident of his marijuana. They allegedly tied the resident to a chair with duct tape and punched him about five times in the face before fleeing with the marijuana in a silver Honda Civic coupe. Oregon State Police spotted the coupe and gave chase. At North Phoenix Road and Juanipero Way, an officer hit the Honda with his patrol car, causing it to crash into a white Toyota Tundra pickup. The woman driving the pickup suffered minor injuries, but the impact of the crash opened the Honda's trunk, exposing the marijuana. Police said they found an AK-47 rifle in the back seat. Garrett and Cervantes Melinero were the only ones in the Honda. They were lodged in the Jackson County Jail on first- and second-degree robbery, among multiple other charges.
