BOYS HOOPS: South wraps up Highlanders By Mail Tribune staff Updated: Dec 10, 2022 08:53 PM A A EUGENE — South Medford capped an unbeaten two-day run at the Shamrock Slam with a 54-43 boys basketball win over North Eugene on Saturday afternoon at Sheldon High School. A day after converting a game-winning drive to the basket to edge Lake Oswego in the final seconds, junior point guard Jackson Weiland delivered 20 points in a rocky but still effective showing by the Panthers (2-2). Sophomores Boden Howell and Tobias Akpan each added 10 points for South Medford, which opened an 18-10 lead through one quarter and kept Class 5A North Eugene (1-5) at bay thereafter. ASHLAND 65, INCLINE (NEV.) 49: At South Lake Tahoe, Nev., Ashland broke the game open with a 28-16 run in the second quarter to cap play in the South Lake Tahoe Invitational with a second straight win. The Grizzlies (4-2) were coming off a 58-27 win over host South Lake Tahoe late Friday night. Izzy Golden knocked down five 3-pointers and finished with 23 points to lead Ashland, while Silas Wright added 17 points. Tommy Williams led Incline High of Nevada with 22 points. WILLAMETTE 40, CRATER 37: At Eugene, Ty Dahlin scored seven of his 12 points in the second half but Crater couldn’t complete the comeback in a low-scoring affair against Class 6A Willamette. Crater (3-2) trailed 28-23 heading to the fourth quarter, but was only able to outscore Willamette (3-1) 14-12 over the final eight minutes.
