Reagan Dawn DeShane, 28, was arraigned Wednesday in Jackson County Circuit Court on two counts of criminally negligent homicide. Police said her 1993 Mazda two-door rounded a corner too fast and swung into the highway’s oncoming northbound lane, killing 54-year-old David Tabor and 57-year-old Dennis Wayne Vittaco, both of Rogue River. The Sept. 25 collision ended a charity biker run from Medford to Crater Lake. Vittaco’s wife, 50-year-old Darlene Vittaco, was wounded and spent several weeks in Legacy Emmanuel Hospital in Portland, where she underwent a surgery on her right leg and was treated for numerous broken bones. A fourth rider, 20-year-old Maggie James of Central Point, was not injured. DeShane, who was not injured in the accident, asked Circuit Court Judge Bill Purdy to release her without bail so she could return home to her child. "I know that I’m in trouble, I just want to take care of things at my house and my son," she said. Purdy denied the request, leaving DeShane’s bail at $40,000 after a jail employee said she had a history of failing to show up in court. DeShane was arrested Tuesday following an indictment in the case last Thursday. DeShane was convicted and fined in 2001 for careless driving and driving while suspended. At the time of the crash, she had no auto insurance, police said.
