Ashland tops Phoenix in softball tilt ASHLAND � The Ashland High softball team used two runs in the fifth inning to seal a 3-1 non-conference victory over Phoenix on Wednesday. Sophomore pitcher Megan Beugli picked up her first win of the season with a complete-game, five-hit performance. The Pirates knotted things up at 1-1 in the fourth but fell behind the following inning. Sara Burnson led of the Grizzly half of the fifth with a base hit and moved to second on teammate Jenna Graven�s bunt single. Both would come around to score on pass balls, giving Ashland their first win of the season against two losses. Burnson led the Grizzlies offensive attack with three hits in four plate-appearances. Graven went 2-for-4. Baseball GRANTS PASS 6, DEL NORTE 4 � At Grants Pass, Speedy Ortiz blasted a two-run home run and Grants Pass� pitching staff held Del Norte to three hits in a non-conference tilt. Brady Howe worked the first three innings for the Cavemen, striking out four and surrendering three hits for his second win of the season. Matt Rettke worked the middle three innings, holding Del Norte hitless. Tyler York started a three-run second inning for Grants Pass with a one-out triple. Howe followed with an RBI double and came around to score on the two-run shot by Ortiz. Howe and Rettke each had two hits for the Cavemen, who improved to 3-1 on the season.
