Cavemen claim Lakeside title LAKE OSWEGO � The Grants Pass Cavemen were seeking a little respect when they headed to the Lakeside Holiday Classic this week. A little for themselves, and a little more for Southern Oregon basketball. The earned plenty for both when they won all three games at the tournament, the latest a 63-33 romp over Lakeridge in Wednesday�s championship game. Ian Elseth scored a game-high 19 points and nine Grants Pass players broke into the scoring column as the No. 5-ranked Cavemen wore down the Pacers to remain unbeaten at 6-0. "There was definitely a pride factor," Grants Pass coach Bill Cowell said. "Our kids wanted to show the northern end of the state that we play pretty good basketball." Grants Pass methodically extended its lead throughout and blew the game open in the fourth quarter by outscoring the Pacers 20-6. The Cavemen were able to score inside and outside, with five players combining for seven 3-point baskets. "We pressured them most of the game and wore them down," Cowell said. HENLEY 77, KLAMATH UNION 56 � At Klamath Falls, Jess Smith scored 20 points and Henley shot 55 percent from the field as the Hornets romped past Klamath Union in a non-conference game Tuesday. Jesse Stewart added 15 points for the Hornets, who led 14-8 after one period and 37-24 at halftime.
