Email Story to a Friend June 13, 2006 May Medford passenger traffic falls below May 2005's total 50,071 went through airport last month Monthly airport passenger traffic topped 50,000 for the first time this year in May, but fell short of May 2005's record. Jackson County Airport Authority reported the second-best May ever with 50,071 air travelers passing through the gates, but it failed to match last year's 50,633 total. The airport accommodated 222,129 passengers through the first five months of the year, up slightly from the 220,180 for a corresponding period in 2005. Phoenix-based U.S. Air on Monday announced it was adding a second U.S. Air Express flight between Medford and Phoenix. The new inbound flight, beginning Sept. 6, will depart Phoenix at 10:02 a.m. and arrive in Medford at 12:25 p.m. The Medford to Phoenix flight will take off at 2:30 p.m. and arrive at 4:43 p.m. Since recording 27 record months in a row, the airport has fallen off pace for the past three months. It's the longest string of declines since the first eight months of 2002, attributed to the post 9-11 terrorist strikes. That was a period when the airport went 15 months without setting a monthly record, from September 2001 until December 2002.
