St. Mary�s, Henley battle to 1-1 deadlock KLAMATH FALLS � St. Mary�s and Henley remain tied for second place in the District 6 standings after a strong defensive performance by both teams produced a 1-1 tie Tuesday. After a scoreless first half, sophomore Becky Schwartz dribbled the ball right up the middle of the Crusader defense and blasted in a short goal to give Henley the lead at the 53rd minute. Four minutes later St. Mary�s sophomore Emily Smith received a pass from Kimberly Tiger and scored from the top of the box to tie the game. Neither team allowed another goal for the rest of regulation and through two 10-minute overtime periods. "Our defense played with a lot of intensity," said St. Mary�s coach George Tiger. "It was a real team effort, especially going over and playing at Henley. It�s not an easy place to play." The Crusaders, now 5-1-1 in District 6 play, suffered a huge blow midway through the second half when Smith injured her ankle. She was unable to play the rest of the game. CASCADE CHRISTIAN 4, ROGUE RIVER 2 � At Rogue River, Kali Warren notched a hat trick to lead Cascade Christian to a District 6 win. Warren scored two goals in the first half and one in the second half. Anna Pon scored both goals for Rogue River, which fell to 1-6 in District 6. NORTH VALLEY 3, HIDDEN VALLEY 2 � At Merlin, Jessica Friedman scored a hat trick to lead North Valley to a District 6 win. The Knights improved to 7-0 in conference play while Hidden Valley fell to 4-3. MAZAMA 3, ILLINOIS VALLEY 0 � At Klamath Falls, senior Mindy Bishop scored two goals and assisted on another in the final Skyline Conference game of the season for Mazama. Bishop started things off with a goal off an assist by Kay Ortega 11 minutes into the contest and assisted on Brea Miller�s goal at the 36-minute mark in the first half. Bishop tallied her final score off an assist from twin sister Melissa 10 minutes into the second half as the Vikings finished conference play at 3-5 and stand 3-8 overall. Boys HENLEY 3, ST. MARY�S 2 � Brian Staver scored two goals for St. Mary�s but it wasn�t enough as Henley dashed any postseason hopes for the Crusaders. The Hornets scored first just one minute into the game before Staver tied things up two minutes later on a corner kick. Staver notched his second goal in the seventh minute to give St. Mary�s a 2-1 halftime lead. Henley tied the game in the 57th minute and took the lead for good 13 minutes later. The Crusaders finished their season 8-5 overall and 4-4 in District 6 play. HIDDEN VALLEY 4, NORTH VALLEY 0 � At Merlin, Hidden Valley scored three times in a span of two minutes and 25 seconds to charge past archrival North Valley in the District 6 match. Matt Johnson broke a scoreless tie two minutes before halftime with a spectacular bicycle kick from 18 yards out off a pass from Ben Downing. One minute later, Jon Morse took a through pass from Downing and put the ball inside the far post for a 2-0 Mustangs halftime lead. ILLINOIS VALLEY 4, MAZAMA 1 � At Cave Junction, Jason Nelson-Elting scored all four goals for Illinois Valley in a District 6 contest. The Cougars picked up their first conference win while Mazama dropped to 0-7.
