Silva leads South; others shine at Centennial YREKA, Calif. - South Medford sophomore Teri Silva continued to shine in another big track and field meet with a pair of wins at the Yreka Invitational Saturday. Silva registered victories in the high jump (5-4) and triple jump (33-11) as the Panther girls finished third in the 14-school field and Class 3A Rogue River was fourth. The Henley girls had a big day with seven first places and ran away from the field with 1631/2 points. South Medford finished third (70 points), just 41/2 points behind runner-up Yreka, while Rogue River had 54. Henley also won the boys team event with a 1491/2 total. South finished second with 79 points. Another good effort from the South Medford's girls was by Noi Hilgendorf. The Panther sophomore, competing in her first open 400 meters, was second with a time of 59.23 seconds. That's the school's fourth-best all-time mark. Hope Berkey placed second in the shot put for the Panthers. Rogue River's girls picked up individual victories from senior Bobbi Wright and junior Lauren Fety. Wright posted a career best in the 800 (2:21.91) and Fety won the 3,200 in 12:39.69. The Chiefs' relay team of Rachel Henze, Kelly Birdseye, Erin Gilkinson and Christina, Malaraalso won the 4x100 in 52.50. St. Mary's received runner-up performances from Leah Sawyer (1,600) and Kristen Zielony (triple jump). In the boys meet, South Medford got individual wins from Shaun Olson (800) and Jason Matthews (300 hurdles). The Panthers received another winning effort from its 4x100 relay team of Kelly King, Andres Reed, Jonathan Klenke and Justin Baldoni. Ashland athletes Paris Edwards and Cameron Voget also fared well, as did St. Mary's Trevor Coolidge, at the meet attended by more than 60 schools from Oregon, Washington and Canada. Myers, pressed for the first time this season in either event, won the discus with a toss of 179 feet, 11 inches. Linus Slind of Mead High in Spokane, Wash., gave him a battle before finishing second at 179-2. Dan Johnson of North was fifth in the discus at 151-10. Myers' winning mark the shot was 60-9. Edwards ran away from the field in the 3,000 meters, winning in 10 minutes, 10.16 seconds, more than 20 seconds ahead of Baker's Danielle Jordan and Klamath Union's Liz Lindgren. Voget threw the javelin a personal-best 204-3, finishing second to Glencoe's Dennis Rice (206-5). Ashland's Megan Cotton was fifth in the 100 hurdles in 15.8. Coolidge ran the second fastest Oregon Class 2A time ever in the 3,000 with a 8:41.9. He PR'd by 10 seconds in placing sixth. * CLARKE LEADS CASCADE - At the Chiloquin Invitational, Kelley Clarke placed second in three throwing events to lead the Cascade Christian girls to 56 points and third place in the 11-team meet. On the boys side, Cascade placed sixth with 42 points. Clarke was runner-up in the discus (87 feet, 1 inch), the shot put (29-43/4) and the javelin (93-0). Cascade's 4x100-meter relay team also was second with a time of 55.6. Shannon Roberts added thirds in the long jump (14-61/2) and the 100 hurdles (18.26). Mary O'Brien was third in the 3,000 in 14:33.76. The Challenger boys were paced by the runner-up finishes of Brandon Armstrong in the discus (123-3), Brian Prins in the 400 (55.05) and the 4x100 relay team (47.31).
