Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend August 24, 2005 Robbery suspect charged with Ashland bank heist A man jailed last week after a botched robbery attempt at a Purple Parrot market in Medford has been charged with robbing a US Bank branch in Ashland earlier this month, officials said. Lucien Moon Patchell, 29, was indicted Tuesday by a Jackson County grand jury on a charge of second-degree robbery, a felony Measure 11 offense that carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 5 years, 10 months upon conviction. On Aug. 11, Patchell allegedly entered the US Bank in the first block of North Second Street in Ashland and told a teller he had a gun, although no weapon was seen. The robber left the bank after taking an undisclosed amount of cash, police said. Ashland police Detective Brent Jensen said investigators believe Patchell was the only person involved in the robbery. Before Tuesday’s indictment, Patchell was already in custody at the Jackson County Jail on two counts of second-degree robbery. The charges are connected to an Aug. 14 incident at a Purple Parrot outlet in the Medford Center, and an Aug. 9 robbery at a Minute Market on South Oakdale Avenue in Medford, officials said. Medford police arrested Patchell the night of Aug. 14. Earlier that evening, Purple Parrot patrons chased him from the business after Patchell allegedly demanded cash from an employee while wearing a mask and saying he had a gun in his pocket, police said. Patchell additionally faces felony theft and burglary charges in connection with a May break-in at Southern Oregon Pawn in Medford, court records show.
