Haynes helps SOU clinch tie for title LA GRANDE -- With four key Southern Oregon players on the bench in foul trouble, Shavon Haynes picked up the slack in a big way Friday night to move the Raiders closer to the Cascade Conference men's title. The sophomore from Cave Junction scored a career-high 17 points and added six rebounds as SOU (17-8, 11-2) clinched at least a tie for the league title with Albertson (21-5, 11-4). The Raiders can secure their first league title since 1968-69 with a road victory tonight at Cascade in Portland. "Obviously I don't want a tie," SOU coach Brian McDermott said of the league race. "We've had the lead the whole way, we want to finish the deal." Haynes entered the night averaging four points, but teamed with Don Guy to stretch a six-point advantage into a 50-26 lead at halftime. Haynes provided two key offensive rebounds for scores, while Guy connected on four straight shots. Guy finished with a game-high 21 points.
