Tornado trips Grizz at the line SOC boys basketball roundup ASHLAND -- It didn't take a genius to figure out why the North Medford boys walked off with a 60-55 Southern Oregon Conference victory over Ashland on Friday night. While the Grizzlies made just 13 of 25 free throw attempts, North Medford converted 25 of 37 to earn its first SOC win of the season. Mike Olson scored 15 points, Casey Casebier had 14 and Wes Towne added 11 for the Black Tornado, which improved to 1-1 in the SOC and 4-7 overall. Ashland fell to 0-2 in the SOC and 4-9 overall. "We lost it at the free-throw line, no question about it," Ashland coach John Skinner said. "You feel badly for the kids because they went out and played a good game other than that one area. It's pretty frustrating." Despite missing 10 free throws in the first half, the Grizzlies built a 34-20 lead. But the Black Tornado went on a 10-0 run to close the half and draw within 34-30. Kris Pavilionis paced the Grizzlies with 17 points and Brett Zundel had 11 points, 14 rebounds and six blocked shots. Ashland still led 46-41 after three periods before North Medford went on a 19-9 run in the fourth to win the game.
