Call out for Miss Rogue applicants The Miss Rogue Valley scholarship program, in its 39th year, is holding an orientation session next week for contestants for the program to be held in April. Women between the ages of 17 and 24, who are United States citizens are eligible. Younger entrants must be at least a high school senior ready to graduate. The Miss Rogue Valley scholarship program is an official preliminary event of the Miss America scholarship program. The orientation session will be held Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Scenic Middle School in Central Point. Information and applications will be available at the session. Tryouts will be the following Wednesday, Jan. 17, also at Scenic Middle School. Contestants will be judged on poise, public speaking ability, current events, presentation and level or talen, and physical fitness. Entrants in the program must meet basic requirements and agree to abide by all the rules of the local, state and national Miss America programs. The Miss Rogue Valley scholarship program, which has been awarded a "Top 10 Award" for local competitions by the Miss America program, will be held April 7 at the Craterian Ginger Rogers Theater. Information about making a donation to the program, or about becoming a sponsor, is also available from Schneider or Wright. The Miss Rogue Valley scholarship program is scholarship-based, designed to help young women from Southern Oregon further their education. In 1999, scholarship assistance totaling more than $32 million was available to contestants at the local, state and national levels.
